Portrait of Sarp Yıldız, film director and AI video creator

Studied computer science, then walked away from code before I ever wrote it for a living. Cinema pulled harder. A master’s in film, years on sets, in writers’ rooms, in acting classes, learning why some frames stay with you and most don’t.

Generative AI didn’t change what I care about. It changed what I can make. Films that lived only on paper now reach the screen: sometimes long silences, hard light, faces that hold the frame, sometimes pushing the limits of action. The tools are new. The aim is old. Not the trick of AI, but the feeling of cinema.

Today I make short films, cinematic pieces and brand work from Istanbul, for people who’d rather watch something than scroll past it.

How I work

Screenwriting

Every film starts as a script, even a thirty-second one. I come from screenwriting and writers’ rooms, so I build the structure first and ask each scene why it is there. If a scene can’t answer, it goes, however good it looks.

Direction & shot design

I think in shots before I generate a single frame. Lens, framing, blocking and rhythm are decided the way I learned on set, with references and a shot list, so every image has a reason to exist. Acting classes taught me to watch faces, and I leave room for a look to hold the frame.

AI generation & grading

I work across many generative tools and choose by what each shot needs, not by habit. Most of what I generate never makes the cut: I curate hard to keep characters, light and texture consistent from the first shot to the last. Then I grade toward a filmic look, with real contrast and grain, so it plays as one film and not as a pile of clips.

Edit & sound

The edit is where a film finds its pace. I let a shot run long when the silence is doing the work, and cut the moment it stops. Sound design and music are made for each film, because half of what you feel in a scene, you hear.

  1. Brand films & ads

Commercial films I make with the same care as a short film, built for where they will run.

  2. Short films

Original stories I write and direct, with a beginning, a middle and a reason to stay.

  3. Social media content

Vertical and short pieces I make for social platforms: teasers and cutdowns that still feel like cinema.

  4. Music videos

I build the images around the song: its mood, its rhythm and its silences.

  5. Experimental pieces

Mood, texture and time: studies where I push what the tools can do.
